Wiring A 30amp Plug From Garage?

by Phil
(Deer Park, Tx)

Question: I would like to run a 30 amp circuit to put a new plug in my garage so that I can plug in and use all functions of my 2002 Jayco Kiwi 23B. Right now, plugging it into the regular outlet trips the breaker (of course). Is the plug for this model a single or triple phase? I am going to run the wire straight from the breaker box and make this plug solely for this purpose.

Robbie: Very Simple. You will have three wires One Ground (green) One Neutral (White) and One Hot (Black) connected to a 30 amp Breaker. Do not purchase the plug at a Home Depot but go to a RV supply store and purchase the plug in a steel box ready to go. If your not sure how to wire the plug or breaker box call a Pro after you have mounted the box and run the wires. Make sure the wiring you run is large enough to carry the 30amps.

Thanks for the Question Good Luck,
Robbie

Run a piece of 2 wire with ground #10 size wire romex to a single 30 amp breaker. The black goes on the breaker. white to the neutral bar and same with the green to the ground. If you have an old house you probably don't have a ground. Just hook it up to the neutral bar or to the panel box with a screw. If you won't 2 phase(no three phase in a house) buy 3 wire with ground # 10 size wire. Black and red go to a two pole 30 amp or 50 amp # 8 size wire to a 2 pole breaker, black and red go to breaker white to neutral and so forth, gl Mike
