Water Spills Out Of Overflow Tube When Filling Portable Water On RV

by Matt

Question:HELP I just got a 2002 30ft jayco kiwi, when I try and fill the fresh water it starts coming out of the overflow tube and even with pump on, spits out air and water at the sink and the meter says it's low, vent hose is open and not plugged up, ANY IDEAS PLEASE, NOTE when hooked up to city water pump works great.

Robbie: You have a few things you can look at...

First, look at the fill pipe, it might be buried inside, but try your best to get a look at it. See if the line is running up-hill in any way to the holding tank or if it has a drop in it and then raises up to the fill tank. You may need to secure the water fill pipe to be as straight and level as possible with a down hill flow. I've had to adjust a lot of them in the past. You might have to get creative to do this.

Second, you might want to add a small extension of hose with the end cut off so you can stick it deeper into the fill hole.

Also be careful not to turn the water pressure up to high. You can't put water into the tank quicker than the vent tube can release the air pressure.

If the tank gauge is reading empty it is normal for the faucets to be spitting air.

Good luck and let me know what you find out,
Robbie
