Water Dripping From RV Roof AC

by pat malavasic

Question: We recently purchased an older 5th Wheel. The interior is in very good condition and, I believe, the unit has been well cared for. When the AC was turned one the first time, the AC works fine, but water was dripping down the outside of the camper. Any suggestions to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. We are an older couple and are anxious to get moving with this unit. Thanx..

Robbie: Water running down the side of your unit from the AC is a good thing. Just like water dripping out from under your car when you use the dash AC. There is a hole in the AC allowing the water to run onto your roof and you seeing this water tells you the AC is working fine. When a customer calls me saying they are having a problem with there AC cooling, one of the first questions I ask is "Do you have water running down the side of the coach".

Relax and enjoy, everything is fine,
Robbie

No Drain Lines
by: Anonymous

There are no drain lines for the AC unit on the roof of the RV. The condensation drips down into a pan which has an outlet on the side of the base pan that lets the water run onto the roof. If it is leaking inside you most likely have a clogged outlet which can be easily opened with a stiff wire probed in the drain outlet. If that does not fix it or you cannot find the spot to probe you may have to take off not just the top outside cover but the shroud covering the coil so you can see what is going on with the drain pan. May be full of dirt and gunk.

Water dripping from AC unit onto floor inside the RV NEW
by: Bob RVing in Alabama

I have a duo-therm Model 600315.331 I have noticed water dripping inside the RV on my table and floor. From what I can see it is the air flow from the trailer into the AC unit up over the splash guards before it can drain out the drain holes on either side of the unit. Thinking about using some Gorilla Tape cleaning the guards and adding that to raise the height of the splash guards to try and keep it from splashing back inside the camper.

For some with water dripping onto the floor NEW
by: bpettett28

Inside these Air Conditioners, there is insulation and it can sometimes come loose for different reasons and block the cores where the air is cooled if you see blockage find a way to either push it back and secure it properly so it will not return and block it again. Then the leaking should stop. This is for the ones that leak inside the RV.

Do you get to this from on top of the RV or take the vent off inside to check this?
