No Matter Where Thermostat Is Set, RV AC Will Not Cycle On

by Willy
(Illinois)

Question: My AC cools very well but it will not cycle on and off (compressor). No matter where we set the temp control the compressor won't cycle on and off. It cools very well. ?

Robbie: Do you have water running off the side of the coach when the air conditioner is on? If yes the air conditioner is fine.

Are the coils freezing to the point the air doesn't flow into the coach? If yes you need to have the air conditioner looked at by a tech. Newer AC units have a freeze protection sensor in the coils that prevent freezing, and it might have fallen out and just need to be placed back in position.

You say the air conditioner is cooling fine so if you're not freezing up the unit and you have water running off the roof, I'd relax and enjoy the cool temps.

YES THERE IS WATER RUNNING OFF THE ROOF AND YES THERE IS PLENTY OF AIR. IT DOES NOT FREEZE UP IT JUST WON'T CYCLE ON AND OFF WE HAVE TO TURN IT TO FAN ONCE IN AWHILE TO KEEP FROM GETTING TO COOL. THIS UNIT IS ON A SMALL(8 FT)POPUP TRUCK CAMPER.

Bad Thermostat

OK, now i understand. You can't regulate the temp in your camper. If you are freezing out at the lowest setting it sounds like a bad thermostat to me.

The thermostat stuck on 32 degrees. Tried to reset it and it somewhat works. However the compressor will cycle on and off but fan continues to run. Does it matter if fan is Hi/Lo or should b on auxiliary?
