My RV Air Conditioner Is Too Loud, What Can I Do?

by Mervin

Question: I have a duo therm air conditioner. It cools fine, but it is very loud. It sound like something is vibrating more than it should. I took the cover off on the inside and found four bolts that look like they pull the unit down on the roof. I tightened them a little, but was afraid to tighten them too much. They were still turning quite easily when I quit turning. This had no effect on the noise. What do you suggest I try next?

Robbie: If you have an older AC there is not much you can do. You can have a tech open the top and check the Bushings under the compressor. Keep in mind the older your AC gets the louder they get. New AC's are extremely quiet now with rotary compressors and other new technology. If your AC is so loud you can't sleep and its over ten years old you may want to invest in a new AC.

RV Air Conditioner rattling
by: Sandy

We have a 2008 Copper Canyon, when turning on the air conditioner the last night,it was shaking the roof top, you could see antenna shaking on top do to the air conditioner. This started the last time we used the air on a camping trip. When you turn the fan on it does the same thing. The air coming out of the vents is cool it's just that it is shaking when turned on.

I replaced my A/C and it has a lot of air related noise. It is a ducted system and ducts are clear and filter is clean. Any suggestions to make it quieter. It is a Dometic 15000 unit with a foam filter. My friends camper that is older is quieter than my new unit.
