Bought A 1959 RV That Has No Title

Question I bought an RV in California. Then drove it to my farm in Indiana. It came with a license plate so never really worried about title. After a year i pretty much just used it on the property not for travel. Now I'd like to get it fixed up so have to drive it to a remodelers. Indiana won't give me plates because I don't have a title for it. What do I do? I called the seller, he says he never has titles to these type of trailers they don't have engines and so don't require a title...

Robbie: It is not my area of expertise as I specialize in repairs and service, but I have talked to some people who can answer your question. But first I need a bit more information.

1. Is there a manufacturer?s name on the RV or was it made by hand?

2. How long is the RV? I was told years ago campers and trailers 16 feet and under didn't require a title. This is not the case today.

3. Is there a number stamped in the frame, most likely on the tongue?

4. If you can give me the license plate number I can find out if it was ever actually registered here in California.

Thanks for your unique inquiry. With this addition information I should be able to help you out.

Depends on state
by: Anonymous

In Many states that is a true statement the owner told you. Call Californias DMV to make sure that is true. Then with a bill of sale(hand written is fine) you can go to the DVM there and explain to them what is going on take names of the people you speek to at California and number to give to your DMV. We have bought many for Arkansa and they don't have to register their boats RV and trailers, but Illinois does. We got new titles and plates no prob by doing this for many Rec toys we have that had no title and bought out of state. Good luck!
