A/C Compressor Wont Come On.

by James

Question: I have a 1984 Prowler Regal 5th wheel and last summer the A/C worked fine except I had to constantly get on the roof to give the blower fan a nudge. I tried it last week and now the blower fan comes on every time but the compressor is not kicking in. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Robbie: Very Simple... The AC is 28 years old. It's time to replace it. I would not invest any money to repair such an old AC.

Afraid I caused the problem but how do I correct it. Was plugged into shore pwr also was working on dash components accidently shorted wire to generator and it cranked. Central AC units were working fine before but now fans work but compressor will not kick on. Can short out the relay on roof air and compressor will run. What do I do now??? ICM units.

C'mon man, my A/C worked perfectly fine and is now having the same problem as Robby's. It's a 1985 duotherm and there MUST be something can be done to fix it. I live in a desert and sure as hell don't have money to be buying a new A/C as you're implying. I don't even have money to be paying any tech to come out and rip me off either. If you're any good at what you do, give some practical repair suggestions dammit.

Fan won’t come on but humms

In less than a year after i bought my coach i had this problem so throwing away your AC is for rookies. Quite simply the rotor in the motor slowly but surely gets that white corrosion on it just like the housing on your alternator in your car does after time. When it builds up it fills the air gap between the rotor and the stator and freezes the motor up. I have used a strap wrench on the shaft and broke it loose on both of my rooftop AC units before. The only solution i have found is to run the units periodically to keep this from happening.
