Replace Back Wall?

by Ginger
(Wisconsin)

Question: We have problem with the back wall of our motor home and dry rot. Almost the entire back wall is rotted. Is there a metal framework that supports most of this wall? If we tear this out to replace, will we be able to fix it with basic carpentry skills?

Robbie: Replacing a wall using basic carpentry skills can be done, but will require a lot of patience and time. Watch for wiring running through the wall. You'll have to keep removing ALL the damaged area before you start to replace anything and this could extend beyond the wall that is showing damage. Most wall framing in older coaches are all 2x2 wood framed, NO METAL. It's also nice to have air tools for use of Brads and Staples.

Good Luck,
Robbie
