Bike Rack On Bumper?

Question: I have a 29" Cougar X-Lite travel trailer. I've seen a 2" trailer mount available to mount on the back bumper. This would be perfect because I could use my existing bike carrier....but I'm concerned about safety. Any perspective on this?

Robbie: The bike rack you are asking about is made to mount on the square hollow tubing you have as a bumper. Safety should not be an issue. Be sure not to exceed the recommend weight for the bike rack. I've installed hundreds of bike racks and spare tire mounts and never heard of a problem.

Bike Rack on Back of Trailer

We lost our bikes in Maine when the upright post snapped. We have been told that no bike racks are guaranteed to last with the constant bouncing on the back of a trailer.

cougar bumper fatique

I just got back from a Florida trip and I have the same Couger xlite as you...I did what you are referring to with only a two bike rack...I didn't think I was to much weight ended up breaking the bumper off. The bumper needs to be reenforced with a piece of steel where the 8' square tubing is welded to the brackets. The weld itself didn't break but the square tubing starts tearing. Metal fatique I guess. Does anyone know if you can purchase the bumper assembly separate, It is welded to the frame.
